Launch of Mexico’s 2024–2027 Legislative Directory

With the aim of continuing to promote best practices in transparency and access to public information in Latin America, we are launching the third edition of the Legislative Directory of the Congress of the Union of Mexico 2024–2027: Who Are Our Legislators and How Do They Represent Us? This new edition is the first to be fully digital and is designed to encourage the analysis and reuse of legislative data.

The new Legislative Directory of Mexico includes standardized, comparable, and open data. In addition to providing profiles of deputies and senators, it offers information on legislative participation rates, predominant education levels, the number of initiatives introduced, and the percentage of legislators with or without previous public office experience.

The Visualizations section offers an interactive and accessible experience for exploring the composition and functioning of the Congress of the Union through dynamic charts and maps. Users can examine how the Congress is structured based on various variables: legislators’ geographic origin, academic background, professional careers, and prior experience in public office, as well as gender distribution, political parties, and type of representation. It also includes data on the composition of parliamentary committees and the roles held by deputies and senators within them.

Each visualization allows for intuitive comparisons and cross-referencing of data, revealing patterns and trends. For instance, in terms of education, it shows that academic attainment is higher in the Senate, where 40% of members report having postgraduate degrees and 47% hold undergraduate degrees. In the Chamber of Deputies, these figures are 32% and 51%, respectively. In both houses, Law is the most common field of study, followed by Social Sciences, and Business Administration and Accounting.

About the Legislative Directory

The Legislative Directory is DL’s flagship publication. It has been produced for over 20 years, with thirteen editions in Argentina and two in Colombia. In Mexico, this is the third edition, following the 2018–2021 and 2021–2024 editions.

Its goal is to provide access to legislators’ profiles, professional backgrounds, parliamentary activity, and contact details in order to strengthen the relationship between representatives and citizens.

Over the years, students, researchers, academics, and journalists have relied on the Legislative Directory to find clear, visual information about Congress, its activities, and its members.
